Electroliquid Aggregation:
To aesthetically convey the ethereal properties of heavy overbearing materials in a natural and fluid form.

Public infrastructure often takes the form of heavy, rigid and industrialized structures that are disconnected from the natural environment. The new tram stop, situated on Anzac Parade at UNSW aims to provide an ethereal structure that seamlessly integrates itself into the natural and built landscapes. The porous facade and the use of rigid and irregular forms along with the fleeting sunlight ultimately creates a series of ephemeral experiences throughout the day which encourages the end-users to interact and engage with the site. The structure is fabricated from bulky steel slabs with timber cladding which emulates appearance of the surrounding campus buildings. The tram stop also serves as a monument that is symbolic of the Indigenous culture (accentuated by the use of color) in light of the recent findings of over 20,000 Indigenous artifacts in Randwick during the light rail excavations.

The light rail stop addresses the theme of 'Multiculturalism', evident in the cohesive and minimalistic structure which fluidly combines the two juxtaposing geometries. The unified form of the light rail stop both literally and metaphorically epitomises the warm and welcoming university atmosphere. The various access points throughout the entire structure easily accommodates the peak hour movement of students to and from the university.
To convey the ethereal properties of heavy overbearing materials, a light porous texture was chosen for the steel slabs. The fluctuating facades that hang from the tram stop not only provides a shelter from the natural elements but mimics the properties of stalactites and stalagmites. Likewise, the seating arrangements which mirrors the roofing system.
The dark texture was applied to the ground cover of the tram stop to create a sturdy platform that denotes a sense of safety. The middle texture was applied to the supporting structure and columns to highlight a slow change in the solidity of the material as it branches off into the roofing. This essentially conveys the fluidity of the heavy materials.
